Stuy Legacy

Stuy Legacy

Stuy Legacy is a competitive open-choreography dance team composed of students across all grades. Through original choreography and many rigorous hours of studio practice, we seek to break barriers and make a statement: talent cannot (and should not) be defined by age. Together, we challenge each other and grow as dancers, peers, and individuals. This culture of encouragement and support makes our team what it is today, and it is truly special; we are always cheering for each other during performances, workshops, and individual projects. The feeling of being surrounded by devoted and passionate individuals is something we all cherish.

Stuyvesant Hindu Students Council HSC

Stuyvesant Hindu Students Council HSC

Cultural & Religious

With biweekly meetings, students will be able to discuss and follow through with different ideas and practices pertaining to Hinduism. Each meeting, club leaders will go over a different aspect of the culture and how groups of people from distinct regions practice it. In addition to learning about this, students will be able to gain a deeper understanding of the different forms of music and dance that people can enjoy in different places of worship. Group discussions and talks by various speakers regarding identity, contributions of Hindus in fields like science and art, etc. With the help of the HSC members, this club hopes to educate and inform students about Hinduism and provide a better understanding for those who want to explore more about it. Club leaders will also arrange an opportunities document for volunteering with local groups and charities, raising money for underprivileged children, and opportunities for virtual conferences, networking opportunities, etc. for Hindu students and those who want to explore and reach beyond Stuyvesant to make a difference in their community. Group members are encouraged to foster connections with peers in addition to undergoing their own religious journey. There is no religious or devotional requirement, as we wish to be inclusive towards all students from the Stuyvesant community. To reiterate, club members will learn about important Hindu holidays, religious texts, food, cultural contributions, music, dance, and more.

Stuy Prep

Stuy Prep

Community Service & Volunteering

As one of Stuyvesant's oldest tutoring programs, Stuy Prep works with traditionally underrepresented middle school students to gain entrance into NYC's specialized high schools. Tutors will assist in teaching SHSAT material and providing one-on-one support to middle school students from our partner schools, many of whom cannot afford paid test prep. No previous experience is required, only an interest in making quality education accessible to all! We partner with ARISTA, Red Cross, and Key Club to award service hours/credits to our volunteers. More importantly, tutors have the opportunity to connect with their tutees and other tutors, gaining insight into effective communication, collaboration, and how volunteering can be a wonderful and rewarding experience.

Stuyvesant Physics Team

Stuyvesant Physics Team

STEM • Academic & Professional

The Stuyvesant Physics Team serves students who want to be ahead in their future physics classes and learn more than what is taught in a regular class. The club believes that the Physics Team will also help the students learn about a topic they might be interested in studying further in the future. Mechanics and E&M, along with topics like thermodynamics, quantum mechanics, etc., are all helpful in their pursuit of physics. The club also hopes to get students ready for competitions like F=ma and PUPC. Through these competitions, students not only gain exposure to higher-level physics problems but also build a community through their teams and learn how to work together. Physics competitions also serve as a way to improve problem-solving, forcing students to apply what they've learned in creative ways.

StuyCanvas

StuyCanvas

Arts & Crafts • Community Service & Volunteering • Hobby & Special Interest

StuyCanvas is a community of artists, developing their individual styles and practices through workshops, projects, and volunteering. Club meetings will often be centered around developing member’s technical skills such as anatomy, color theory, and composition. Members will be encouraged to actively apply these lessons to their work both inside and outside of the club, helping them become a more well-rounded and versatile artist. While StuyCanvas aims to facilitate the growth of one’s technical abilities as well as encourage the creation of artwork, StuyCanvas hopes that members can inspire one another. StuyCanvas will give Stuyvesant students a platform to collaborate, request constructive criticism, and support each other in the members' artistic explorations. Many club activities will encourage active teamwork and discussion. StuyCanvas is a wonderful place to create for yourself, and not necessarily worry about polished, finished products. The club encourages you to improve at your own pace and become a better artist with every meeting

StuyFishing

StuyFishing

Hobby & Special Interest • Community Service & Volunteering

StuyFishing is focused on immersing the Stuyvesant community in nature and conservation, even in an urban environment. It gives students the opportunity to get outside and help clean up local parks and enjoy fishing as a hobby. We want to get our students outdoors and teach them fishing skills so that they can learn sustainable fishing practices and reduce stress levels, an effect fishing is known to have. We mostly fish freshwater at Prospect Park Lake and The Lake in central park. All equipment will be provided by StuyFishing and students can learn skills at in-school meetings and then apply them when we go to local bodies of water that are accessible by the MTA. We also plan to collaborate with the fishing club at LaGuardia High School, and potentially organize a fishing competition. The number one rule of StuyFishing is to leave the place you fish cleaner when you arrive.

The Stuyvesant Guild

The Stuyvesant Guild

STEM • Academic & Professional • Arts & Crafts

The Stuyvesant Guild is for the explorers, the makers, and the innovators. We’re a cross-disciplinary club that collaborates on unique projects, has thought-provoking discussions, explores unconventional careers, and blends science with other fields such as literature, the arts, philosophy, and history. We discuss questions like: Why do we exist in the universe? What are the trade-offs between sustainability and economic growth? Is it actually possible to grow potatoes on Mars? And why are cute things… cute? Our meetings can have hands-on activities, nuanced discussions and presentations, and events with guest speakers and panelists. Our ultimate goal is to host Stuyvesant’s first Maker Faire-style event that allows everyone to display their projects. The fair relates to our overarching theme by displaying careers outside of the conventional STEM path, such as sustainability designers or bio artists, and focusing on hands-on exploration of the intersection between science and the humanities. We encourage our members – Guilders! – to create and lead passion projects and collaborate with others to leave a memorable impact on Stuyvesant.

Career Connect

Career Connect

Academic & Professional

Stuy students can use this club to meet experts in their career field. In each meeting, they will meet an expert of a different field. They will meet doctors, scientists, computer scientists, and so many more. This will allow them to gain insight on the professionals’ education background, career path, and a typical day of working in that field. In particular, those who are interested in finding possible mentors for research, this is a great opportunity to gain connections! We hope to help you find passions that you can explore and write about on your resume; on that note, we will host resume classes to make your resumes stand out!
