organization Stuyvesant Rowing Club

Stuyvesant Rowing Club

Club Sports & Recreational Games

The club provides students the opportunity to row on the Hudson River every Friday by organizing and hosting weekly rowing sessions. From these, students will learn various maritime skills, boatbuilding, rowing, and coxing. The club also assists the boathouse with community rows, teaching newcomers from the public how to row. Additionally, the club has a competitive rowing team that partakes in races around the year in the Northeast. Tryouts are usually held in the fall when school starts, and competitions are often in the fall and spring. Practices are often held in the months before races Wednesdays or Sundays, in addition to regular Friday meetings. Our club also has boatbuilding sessions over the winter, where students both maintain our Whitehall boats and build two to three new boats per year, in a variety of styles and sizes from Whitehall gigs to canoes. Please speak to the club president or captains if you are interested in boatbuilding, as there can sometimes be limited slots for Friday youth boatbuilding sessions.

Meeting Schedule

Weather permitting, meetings are every Friday, starting right after school and ending at around sunset. If one needs to leave before then, that is totally okay- just make sure to indicate that on the signup sheet. Due to the winter weather, we will generally pause rowing from around November to April but may still hold meetings for our boatbuilding sessions.
